The storyline reminded me of the tv show Revolution and the movie The Road but made "age appropriate" for middle and high school students. I think it will appeal mainly to boys because of the topic, the easy language and especially the length of it too.
I thought the author did a good job of explaining things well and not hard enough especially with what exactly the Eleventh Plague was. Kind of weird that our "enemies" in the story were China (never really see that).
