I read this as part of my Proust Preparation. I'm reading stuff about Proust before diving in, hopefully in 2014.

This book is presented as a 'Self-Help' guide but that aspect shouldn't be taken too literally. Alain de Botton tries to present philosophical subjects to the average reader and has written several books and presented several TV programmes over the years with this aim.
