Jan and Antonina Zabinski are real-life World War II heroes who saved many Jews and others in the Polish resistance during the Holocaust. The movie based on this book is much more watch-able than this book was read-able. The Zabinski's story is inspirational yet the book was less engaging than I expected it would be. The treatment of both people and animals (while not surprisingly brutal) was realistic yet very hard to read.

Ultimately a book of optimism and keeping hope in humanity alive during some of its darkest hours, I thoroughly enjoyed this. I listened to the Audible version and it was very well narrated. I look forward to seeing the movie eventually.

An interesting story that was sometimes derailed by the density of detail that distracted from the main story. At some points I had to plow ahead to return to the main focus, which was challenging.
