Maybe it’s more of a 3.5. I do wish goodreads allowed half stars because this book is better than a 3 (I like it) but doesn’t quite reach a 4 (I really, REALLY like it).

I am confused as to why I don’t love this book. All the elements are here: books in the narrative! Interesting topic and characters. Feminist ideas. Changing historical perspectives. But...I don’t know. The subject of the book kept me interested, but I did not particularly feel an emotional connection to it, more of an academic

Definitely one of the “must reads” for this year. Slow but lovely pacing where the unconventional is encased in the everyday routines while the world undergoes significant shifts.

The OED played a role in my childhood. We had the compact edition which was two volumes in a case with a magnifying glass in a sliding drawer at the top. I have read some of Simon Winchester’s books about the OED. I thoroughly enjoyed this fictional account.
