Utterly perfect and a meditation on one of my fav topics in fiction: in the age of artificial intelligence, what constitutes humanity? I didn’t think anything could surpass Never Let Me Go as my favorite Ishiguro, but Klara absolutely does.

Completed in one sitting. Such a powerful novel on what it is to think and feel and love and be human. This one will stick in my thoughts for a while

Original idea. Took me a while to fully understand and get myself into the context and take on the perspective of Klara. I am still not quite sure what the Cooper Machine was. However, maybe it wasn't anything familiar as the whole thing is futuristic (I think). I didn't really like the characters so much but still found the novel compelling, and I was rooting for the young folks as well as Klara. I was surprised at the end-- Love that! So original and beautiful. I loved it so much. It's the first book I've read since THE GIVER that gave me a sudden shock and yet its world view is so open to the positive. I loved Klara and her intense belief in the human spirit and its connection with the natural world. ...more
