If you want a short fantasy with plenty of creepy characters then this is a good pick. I liked the concept of the school for teens who had been sent back from their alternative worlds. The murder/mystery angle was a twist for me but the solution wasn't buried very deeply. Still, cool images, concepts and style. I see this one as working well for some MS readers at our school. ...more

Wanted to like this as it had an interesting premise, but it somehow got lost on the way trying to be too many things at one time.

Part mystery, part fantasy, and part crime, Every Heart a Doorway is a provocative, disturbing tale that includes multiple dimensions. Characters struggle to remain sane in a world that does not accept them; they find friendship with those they meet in a home for wayward children. Seanan McGuire had me captured from the get-go with intriguing characters who are fighting personal demons in a world that has failed to understand them. ...more
