This story certainly lived up and above my expeditions. I loved the uniqueness of the plot, as well as the fact that the ending was not predictable, and the story cliffhanger; it made me more engaged while reading, and left me eagerly waiting to continue the rest of this story in the sequel. It definitely had a charm to it, and I am looking forward to read the rest of this beautiful story!

It’s been nearly 10 years since I’ve read a book that I loved this much. The world-building, maps, history recaps, and snippets from “old textbooks” provided by Varela made understanding such a complex world, easy. I ordered the sequel about 100 pages from the end because I already knew I couldn't wait to read it! The driving force of the book is definitely the fantasy political intrigue and the relationship between Crier and Ayla (I am a sucker for sapphic enemies to lovers and a handmaiden/royalty plot). The worldbuilding is very cool and the 'robots created by humans take over and humans are now subservient to them' plotline never felt tired or like a repetition of something done before.
