I really liked this. Definitely a little Anita Shreve without the cheating husband or wife and overly "poetic" flowery wording. I thought it was interesting the way the author tied in the past and present. I liked that everything at the school was so overly dramatic and based on these traditions that were often outdated and sometimes dangerous, but still carried through by someone who clung to the past. Sparked my interest in Grimm's Fairy Tales and modern interpretations.

Well, I love Carol Goodman's books. I've read and re-read them all. The only reason that I did not give this fabulous gothic story a full five stars was that I felt it borrowed a little too heavly from "Lake of Dead Languages", especailly the ending which ties everything up in an over-kill fashion ( we can't ALL be related).Other than that, I absolutely adore Goodman's every word and will look forward to her next amazing tale.
P.S. Have read it for the second time. Still enjoyable :0) ...more

As much as I enjoyed The Sonnet Lover, I have regretfully report Arcadia Falls is not as well done. She's tempering her style here, on her way to the Sonnet Lover, but not quite there. That said, I liked it more than hundreds of other books.
