I am a SAA fan. No, I am a SAA super fan. I pre-order her books and wait patiently until the weekend so I can devote my entire time, uninterrupted, to read her jewels. I have very few authors that I buy their books without knowing what the book is about and SAA is one of them, let alone she is the only one I pre-order from.

This is what true friendship is all about. Whether you hang out together everyday or only see each other in passing, it's those bonds you've created deep down inside your heart that define what you really are to each other. I could also relate to the grand daughters not knowing as much of their family histories and realizing that their elders had secrets and were not always like the people they see now.

How lucky am I to get this as an Early Reviewer.......Loved it.....I am so glad I discovered Sarah Addison Allen.
In the first few chapters of this book, I struggled with the names given to the town (Walls of Water) and the surrounding area (Cataract National Forrest). But I got over it quickly.
I do not like reviews that tell you everything that happens. I will let this be an adventure for your hearts.

I really enjoyed this book. There is a little bit of everything. Love, suspense, mystery, and comedy. The ending did seem rushed, as though the author ran out of time. It would have been nice to have had about 100 more pages which would have included more about her grandmother when living at the house and to clarify more on some points.
Although I enjoyed this book I didn't think that it is up to the caliber of her last three books. If you want to read this authors works be sure to read GARDEN SPELLS...still her best.

I was excited when I first started this- it has a great premise, with that magical realism we all love in Allen's novels. Yet my biggest complaint was the same I have with all her books- everything ties up so neatly, and so quickly. I felt the story ended too fast, and I wanted another 50 pages to get to know the characters better. I found it improbably that two women who didn't know each other could create a life time friendship within a week and a half.

This book was good to listen to, although the characters' quirks were a bit annoying and the story line was very predictable. I think it would have been much better if the author had made the back story of the grandmothers the main plot line instead.

Another fantastic story by one of my now-favorite authors. A bit of magic, a bit of intrigue, and an old secret. A formula to a fantastic story!
A quick fun read full of magic and mystery.
