Sarah Addison Allen has answered all our prayers and given us another story about the Waverley Family. Allen evokes all the wonderful things about close-knit families and small Southern towns. From the first paragraph, readers are transported back to Bascom, North Carolina, to read more about the beloved quirky Waverelys. I really appreciated that the story doesn't pick-up where we left them, but rather, Allen picks the story up nine years later.

Some readers may find the story a bit repetitive

I was waiting this year, for a book I really wanted to read to be my first read of the year. My patience paid off because NetGalley approved me for First Frost, which is probably the book I most wanted to read of them all! I was a little book starved by the time I read it, and I devoured it. I probably would have anyway, as this book was amazing!!

This was a wonderful visit back to the Waverly Sisters. I enjoyed seeing how their lives have grown since the first book.

As always, Sarah Addison Allen wrote magic here. It pulled me in, and the end made me cry happy tears.

Garden Spells was a magical book. This book continued the story in a sweet way, but nothing can compare to the first book. Still worth reading, though!

What a delight to catch up with the Waverly family again as they continue to adapt to the gifts they've been granted. To sum up my whole experience with this book, as I reached the end I knew the first thing I was going to do upon turning the last page was to look up a recipe for Fig & Pepper bread, not because I'm a bread-baker and would ever really have the determination to make it, but because it sounded so good I had become obsessed about learning about it. I'm sure Sarah Addison Allen was r ...more

Like mist creeping through the woods, Sarah Addison Allen’s writing weaves into your memory leaving delight in its wake. You find yourself underlining quotes and starring passages to savor later.

When reading First Frost, in the beginning, you feel just as out of sorts and anxious as the characters. Things are not quite right in the Waverly world. But by the time you time you finish the story, you are once again enveloped in the magic of their world. I love the female relationships in this book,

Another delightful book by Sarah Addison Allen. Though I've loved everything she's written, I had some concerns about this follow-up book. I should have known better - it was as charming as I'd hoped, and I was thrilled that the characters remained true to those I'd met the first time around. ...more
