First Frost is the welcome return of the subtle Southern magic of Sarah Addison Allen. Even though a halfway decent book by her is better than an excellent book by most other authors, (see Lost Lake and The Girl Who Chased the Moon) I was happy to say that I enjoyed this one on its own merit, and found it to be especially good even compared among her other works.
