Holly Black really knows how to keep one in suspense during the length of a book!

It was a slow start for me. I left it on the side for a week or two after starting to read it. But once I was finally in the mood, nothing could stop me from finishing it. And I say that in mind that it is time full of deadlines for a uni student such as myself.

Hey guys, so I do not even know what to say about this one. I kind of have a love hate relationship with this one. So..the writing was fine, actually a bit easier than the first one, because there was not as much world building or information dumping. And there was less talking about things, and more showing things happened. I e **No plot spoilers were harmed in the making of this review**

Hey guys, so I do not even know what to say about this one. I kind of have a love hate relationship with this one. So..the writing was fine, actually a bit easier than the first one, because there was not as much world building or information dumping. And there was less talking about things, and more showing things happened. I enjoyed this writing easy to read nature, not to many long, lengthy, needless descriptions that detract from the progression of the story. However, I do have an issue with the 'romance' and pacing... For the 'romance' I do not even know what to say. I guess it is supposed to be an enemies to lovers? But honestly, there does not seem to be any kind of warmth between them. Okay maybe Jude has some treachous thoughts, I am sure we all do with hot men. But cardan? He has not really shown... Tbh I thought Jude had more freaking chemistry with Baleskin. BUT WHATEVER. Also so....for basically half the book...things just..kinda? happen. There is not really any big...things...Things happen, but more, subtle, political intrigue, vying and swaying, hidden mechanism, a slow roll, logs added to a fire. It just felt like it was stalling, waiting for something. and when that something happened, it was great, but...too rushed..???? Like, i liked the direction, it was finally interesting, but I feel like it could of been fleshed out a bit more. I think it was similar to the first book, but the build up then boom, but this one seemed to drag on a bit more. But that is just my opinion.
As for Jude, honestly I love jude. She is one of my favorite badass female characters. She never backs away from a challenge, even if she know she wont win, she does it just to say she can. She is so amazing and even if people bend, and torment her, she will not break. She is as strong as a raging fire. But ...like a raging fire, it cannot be everywhere at once and can burn out if not fed properly. My poor baby Jude. Trying to do so many things and keep up with so much, and with little thanks, it hurt my heart. I just wanted her to be happy, seriously. Is that too much to ask for?????
Cardan...honestly...I thought I was warming up to him. He was becoming more intriguing. Although he was forced into this, he, did not behave precisely the way one would think. And it made me admire him, just a tad. I do not think I pitied him or was sad for him, more just like..curious, wondering to see how he would rise to the occasion. He was a mystery, a puzzle for me to figure out. But when it started to be put together, I am not entirely sure I entirely love what I see.
ALSO THAT ENDING i AM SO MAD. WHO DOES THAT. WHO. THE.HECK.DOES. THAT. Seriously. I am so pissedoff.
Also I really want a madoc pov, like in the deleted scenes, I loved that. Also just going to say that taryn and locke can go suck it.

I read almost this entire book in one sitting. So good. It’s so hard to find a good book where the plot and the romantic subplot are equally intriguing AND the character’s interesting. I love Jude. So duplicitous and headstrong.

After finishing The Wicked King I think I may be speechless. For a moment there were just no words. I shouldn't have been shocked by the ending I guess but I completely was. The whole book kept me enthralled and wanting more. Now I have to wait until November to get it! I don't want to give away any spoilers you really need to read this series. I have quickly become one of my favourites.

I personally loved the first book on re-reading and this one, I loved even more. The writing is absolutely wonderful, of course. Additionally, there is just so much scheming and deception, so many suspicions about what is going to happen next. It was a lot more engaging than the first one as the world is something we’re already familiar with and all the characters had their parts to play.
