This is a very good first novel for this writer. She apparently has written books on her naturalist studies but this is the first novel. I really loved the main character and found her very human. The story was very well woven and the mystery solved. What I found difficult was a mother leaving a small child with an abusive drunk. I don’t care how broken, a good mother would not do that. She has been painted as a good mother. The other things I had a hard time with were her raising herself in a h

A one day read usually means a simple read or a simply good read. In this case the latter. There is much to enjoy about the story, reminding me of Stratton’s Girl of the Limberlost.

the book was good it just wasn’t my favourite especially because the author is white yet used the n word multiple times and i understand that it was set in a time when it was almost normal but i think the author probably knew better than to use that language. ASIDE from that it did have me holding my breath and was quite the page turner. 🤓🤓🤓
