Ik was zo enthousiast om dit boek te lezen, maar helaas… het viel een beetje tegen. Het wordt een cozy mystery genoemd, maar eerlijk gezegd vond ik het niet heel mysterieus. Ja, er was een moord, maar spanning of onverwachte plottwists zaten er voor mij niet echt in.

Daarnaast werden er vaak details verteld die weinig toevoegden, waardoor het verhaal soms wat traag aanvoelde. Al met al: een oke boek, maar niet eentje dat me echt greep.

A murder club with geriatrics as the sleuths is a premise that will surely grab all those Miss Marple and Magpie Murder fans.

Set in what sounds like a posh UK retirement community a group meets every Thursday to try and solve cold murder cases. It beats playing bridge, supposedly. This group has a range of talents from their former lives includes a nurse, a psychiatrist and some other useful skills. Four stars! This book reminds me of my beloved author Bachman. It is a murder mystery set in a retirement community where there is wine, cocktails and a bit of murder mystery solving. The story is told from the point of view of Joyce's, a retired widowed nurse, whose only child is a well accomplished hedge fund professional. I didn't really care for the actual members of the club. I couldn't connect with them which made it hard to get into what turned out to be a good mystery. I would recommend despite the fact I wouldn't go further in the series the mystery is quite well written and there are some lol moments in the book ...more
