One of the methods Alice Walker used to convey a powerful message was simplicity. When I was younger and tried to read this book, I didn't like it. I think I was impatient and unable to comprehend the subtleties and pure genius in this book. I love the movie, but had no idea that the book was very, very much a different story. It is simply about Spirit, or God, and how people develop spirituality. But you have to think deeper, and really take in what the characters are saying, and this book allows you to do so. To start asking questions cuz you realize you know nothing at all
