What Members Thought

Adeline was going to be a tree, and instead, people have come brandishing an ax.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is one of the best books, I’ve ever read. It might be a little early to say that it is my favourite book of the year, but it probably is. The concept of the book reminded me of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. A person dealing with the devil to stay forever young, and suffering with the eternal damnation of their soul? Yep. That’s Dorian Gray. Whether it be YA or NA, I ha ...more

This books was very slow, I guarantee if I read the physical copy I never would have finished it. I have the audiobook on 2 times speed since chapter one. I think the reason I didn’t like it is because there is no action. It felt very mundane to me. Of course I loved the romance but I couldn’t fully understand the concept of Luke. There was a lot of French a time line I could not keep up with. I really wanted to like this book. It was a good concept but poor execution

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab is truly a book beyond imagination. After a long reading journey, this is the one book I want to brag about and happily give 5 stars. It broke my heart, brought me to tears, yet I endured and kept turning the pages until the very end—though for me, it doesn’t really feel like an end. I’m still standing at those doors with Addie LaRue, waiting for her to be with Henry, not knowing if that will ever happen.

Everyone kept telling me to read this monster of a book because it was popular and well-written and all that. Of course, I tend to lean toward the arcane more than the mainstream, but then I thought, well - as a reviewer (who is really trying to expanding her horizons - NY Resoultion!!) I should give it a go. And I'm really glad I did. It was wonderfully written with such a unique and interesting idea - about a woman who makes a deal and can live forever...but never be remembered by anyone. This

What if you get the chance to live forever?
Addie LaRue always wanted to live big, to see the world beyond Villon, and therefore in a moment of desperation, she signed away her soul to the devil in return to live forever. She was warned, never to pray to the gods who answer before dark, no matter how desperate or dire the situation is. She prayed, now she is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.
“And no matter how desperate or dire, never pray to the gods that answer after dark.”
