What Members Thought

Adeline was going to be a tree, and instead, people have come brandishing an ax.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is one of the best books, I’ve ever read. It might be a little early to say that it is my favourite book of the year, but it probably is. The concept of the book reminded me of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. A person dealing with the devil to stay forever young, and suffering with the eternal damnation of their soul? Yep. That’s Dorian Gray. Whether it be YA or NA, I ha ...more

If you're looking for a book that's going to make you cry from beginning to end then look no further.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue tore my heart apart and the through it in the garbage.
This book is one of the most amazing stories I have ever read and a definite highlight of my 2021, even though, the year just started. It is also one of the most interesting 'be careful what you wish for' / 'deal with the devil' stories I have ever read. The ending was also bittersweet, as I was hoping it woul ...more

****3 STARS****
After much procrastination, I finally got around to reading Addie Larue, and let me tell you I was expecting a lot more from it. Giving this book a 3 star ONLY for the later half which was a more thrilling experience than the slow-paced first half.
You’ll find the book to be written in poetic prose which was beautiful at times but lacked luster.
*yes I see you ardent fans out there giving me the stink eye*
The first 30 percent of the book was really tedious for me to get through.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab is truly a book beyond imagination. After a long reading journey, this is the one book I want to brag about and happily give 5 stars. It broke my heart, brought me to tears, yet I endured and kept turning the pages until the very end—though for me, it doesn’t really feel like an end. I’m still standing at those doors with Addie LaRue, waiting for her to be with Henry, not knowing if that will ever happen.

I couldn't put it down, I can't remember who recommended this book to me - but thank you! I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to!
Adeline LaRue makes a deal with the darkness in order to escape an arranged marriage. But she doesn’t get what she thinks and learns the ties of her curse of being an immortal or "ghost" an "echo" that nobody will remember her nor her name when they leave the room or turn away from for more than a few minutes and she's immediately forgotten except Luc, the darkn ...more

What if you get the chance to live forever?
Addie LaRue always wanted to live big, to see the world beyond Villon, and therefore in a moment of desperation, she signed away her soul to the devil in return to live forever. She was warned, never to pray to the gods who answer before dark, no matter how desperate or dire the situation is. She prayed, now she is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.
“And no matter how desperate or dire, never pray to the gods that answer after dark.”
