Hoop Queens is a series of poems by Charles R. Smith Jr. describing the top women in the sport of Basketball. This book would be great for third or fourth grade classroom. This book would be great to have in the classroom library to show girls as well as boys that women are not limited to certain careers and can be successful in a male dominated field. The structure of the book is great for introducing gender roles, as well as a way to integrate poetry.
