Book 27 of 2023: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I first read this novel as a high school student. I was not impressed with the characters, storylines, or plot. In fact, the only thing I remember liking about the novel was the length - it was a far shorter story than many of the others I had to read in AP English. 🤪 Needless to say, Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway and Daisy Buchanan made no lasting impression on me.
I’m glad I revisited the story though. Rereading this American classic as an ad ...more

This is a reread for me but I remember almost nothing about the first time I read it in 2016, perhaps I was too young then to appreciate it. I do think this is a great story and I enjoyed the writing style. It is a heartbreaking story really about someone being so caught up in the past and about people failing to show up when it really matters. Interesting. But, at the same time, I don't think any of the characters were fleshed out, other than Gatsby, maybe that was on purpose? I'm glad that I r

What better way to go into 2020, amarite?
It was strangely melancholic reading it this time,i couldn't help but feel utter compassion and solidarity with Gatsby, for i too often romanticize the mere whisper o things to undeserved levels; there are bad people in this world [read: Daisy and Tom] and then there are the Gatsbys of it, whom i can't condemn -in good conscience- according to our mortal laws; for they live in their own world, far away and disconnected from ours; where sins and virtues ha ...more
