I'm a big fan of the TV series "Castle", which is about a mystery writer tagging along with a police squad. So I was thrilled that Hyperion decided to publish "Richard Castle's" new series, beginning with Heat Wave. Of course, the real author is being kept top secret, though speculation runs to James Patterson or Stephen Cannell, since both appear regularly on the show as themselves. This is on the bestseller list, mainly because the TV show is popular, but if you decide to try this be forewarned that "Richard Castle" is the name of the TV show character (no one knows who the actual author is) and that even though other books in the "series" are mentioned in the book, they don't exist. So don't be calling up your local reference or fiction librarian asking why they aren't in the catalog. :-) ...more

I love the television show for which this is a companion book (in a nutshell, author Richard Castle tags along with New York City Detective Beckett and writes a book based on her and this is that book). And it was impossible not to picture the characters on the show that this book is based on. I also think it is kind of fun that Nathan Fillion (aka Richard Castle) is pictured on the book jacket as the author and that the real author is not know (although there is some conjecture out there). This was a pretty good read that copies the tone of the TV show Castle. It was fun to read about the book that is talked about so much in the show.
