This book ruined me. Literally. I finished this last night and couldn’t think of anything else. I still can’t! It may look intimidating at first, with it’s looming size, but I swearrr when you get cirka 30% in, you will not be able to put it down. The characters were so easily reletable and they were real blood and flesh. They had scars and nightmares. I loved everything about this book. (3.5 stars) THIS QUOTE!! 😩: “I would live alone for fifty years to have one day with you.” - I literally love her, like just marry me already. 💍🧎‍♀️

The first half of the book is so slow but once it speed up I loved the story! Do I now understand the story? No. But do I now at least know what’s going on? No..I have no idea what the story is about and I am so confused rn. BUT Ead and Sabran are *chef’s kiss*, I wish there were more scenes with them together tho!

Wow, this was a challenge! But an incredible one! At 848 pages, this book became the largest book I’ve ever read, by over 150 pages!

High, adult fantasy, was completely new to me. I’ve only ever read YA Fantasy, and not even a lot of that! Saying that, it was amazing! 2 weeks to read, but I was hooked.

High, adult fantasy, was completely new to me. I’ve only ever read YA Fantasy, and not even a lot of that! Saying that, it was amazing! 2 weeks to read, but I was hooked.

The first three quarters of the book are very world and story building, and the last 25% is where most of the action is. It was really thrilling and enjoyable - I was surprised at how interested I was in each of the different perspectives! Although there are two main perspectives - Ead and Tańe, there were several other characters whose perspectives continued throughout the book!

I don’t really know why, but I was completely drawn to Ead’s side, I was always looking forward to her next chapter! I do wish that we’d seen how her feelings developed, rather than diving straight into the romance - it was slightly difficult to get used to! Tańe - my love grew for over time, by the end she was a favourite (and her beautiful dragon)! Queen Sabran was a brilliantly written female monarch, whose storyline dealt with a lot of grief and strength, she was truly admirable.
Niclays - I didn’t love, I understood his part in the events, I wish I’d have felt more sympathy for him than I did!

I was wowed at the detail in this book, you can really see the research that must have gone into making this spectacular book! As someone who was new to fantasy, it really helped - including the persons of the tale, glossary, map and timeline!

It was so incredible to see sapphic representation in a fantasy book, which is a kind of history retelling, but there could have been more, in 848 pages, there was only (roughly) 4 scenes, which were all a little short. But this is my personal preference! This book was still beautiful and wonderful and I still adored it with the amount it had!

I hope Shannon writes further works in this world - it would be perfect, although the ending was great - I can see spin-offs (and I really hope there will be)!
