I finally found the sort of book I've been craving! This book had an excellent balance of interesting narrative and true blue history. It describes the scientific, political, and religious adventures of Joseph Priestley and how they relate to basically everything we hold dear in the modern age. This all includes democracy, religious tolerance and freedom, and the rise of science, rationality and technology.
