Read it the first time 5 or 6 years ago. On this second read I skipped a few chapters but read most of it. In using the stories of our species and many others, along with our common ancestors, he illustrates various aspects of genetics and evolution. In many ways it is a good device but at times I found my self wishing that I was reading two separate books, one about genetics and evolution and another about the relationships of extant species to each other based on the fossil and molecular evide
