Author Brian Green is to be commended for his brilliant attempt to communicate the intricacies of particle physics, general and special relativity, the Big Bang, quantum mechanics and, yes--even string theory--to the interested lay person. It is a monumental effort ,since these topics are not easy for most people to grasp. My mind was seriously stretched by this book. I think Greene is one of the best at making difficult subjects very accessible. This is one of those books that needs back to back readings to soak it all in. I set out to read this because I had what I thought was a simple question about the shape of the universe. I came away not with an answer like I expected, but an even deeper mystery, and more possibilities. An now I am not so sure that my original question was even framed correctly anymore, or ...more
