This is exactly what it says it is-- a very short book for people who want the basic gist on the fundamentals of astrophysics. It's important to be able to disseminate knowledge to the larger, non-scientific population. In fact, in today's political climate, it is absolutely essential we have someone who can bridge the gap between the scientists and the wider public. No prior knowledge needed.

If you're new to space, I'd highly recommend this to you as it's a fun book with a playful tone and lots of knowledge. There's some sarcasm, but the it's playful.
If you're an old hand at astrophysics, I'd recommend skipping right on by. It's fun, but it would be a waste of time otherwise. ...more

This does exactly what it says on the tin: a brief overview of the foundations of astrophysics and current ideas about the universe, in plain language. It's not Tyson's most creative or interesting work, by any stretch, but it's a good quick read (or 3.5 hour listen if you want it for background while doing chores or driving or something -- highly recommended because deGrasse Tyson's dulcet tones are always pleasant).
