4.5 stars, rounded up because this was such a fun read! Even though life made me put this book down at times, I definitely did not want to.

I came into this book with zero expectations. I had not read anything by either author, although Olivia's Angels of Elysium series was recently put on my radar by multiple friends. People have spoken so highly of it, that I jumped at the opportunity to read and review Of Wicked Blood. And let me tell you, that was an excellent decision.

Of Wicked Blood is a du 4.5 stars, rounded up because this was such a fun read! Even though life made me put this book down at times, I definitely did not want to.

I came into this book with zero expectations. I had not read anything by either author, although Olivia's Angels of Elysium series was recently put on my radar by multiple friends. People have spoken so highly of it, that I jumped at the opportunity to read and review Of Wicked Blood. And let me tell you, that was an excellent decision.

Of Wicked Blood is a dual POV, with the story being told by both Slate and Cadence. The book opens with Slate and I was instantly hooked. He is that perfect combination of bad boy trying to hide a heart of gold that just makes the reader swoon immediately. Just enough bad boy and just enough heart of gold. And then we meet Cadence, who is an equally well balanced character. Our sheltered teen on the cusp of adulthood, who is trying to figure out her place in the world. They are two characters we've all met multiple times in multiple books, but the authors have done a fantastic job making these two something fresh. And yes, the slow burn romance is so good.

One of the things I think I liked most about this book was the refreshing take on the unsuspecting group of people who need to team up for their quest for the good of all. When you think of a YA fantasy with these groups, you think of everyone being the same age, but not here. We end up with a group of four, all different ages, spanning from 17 to married with children. I loved seeing a group with a broader range of life experiences to bring to the table.

The one thing that had me take off that half star in my rating was the ending. There were some strong revelations toward the end of the book that definitely allude to the where book two could take us and certainly leave several unanswered questions. I just would have liked to see our potential bad guy show his hand at least a tiny bit.

Of Wicked Blood is an all around amazing fantasy that will have you utterly entranced by the magic held within its pages. I cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel! ...more

The book starts with Slate Ardoin receiving a letter that invites him to a prestigious college and a chance to learn more about his history.
