I did not vote for reading this in Book Club expecting a repetition of other similar books; so I was happily surprised. Anthony shares his passion, his failures, and his dreams in a credible fashion. His experiences reinforce my understanding that elephants have great intelligence and respond to their treatment. For example, cruelty begets hostility.
My hopes are that this book increases awareness as it addresses the need for sustaining and creating wildlife refuge.

Read for book club. 1.5, round up to 2.
Tighter editing would have helped here. I probably would have connected more if it was less memoir, more factual detail. Less anthropomorphizing. Less arrogance, a bit more humility would have helped, but perhaps that was because I listened to the audiobook, and although I normally like Simon Vance as a narrator, he seemed to just amplify my perceived arrogance of the author.
