What Members Thought
4 stars for an extremely well written nonfiction historical novel that intersperses history of cell culture with the life of the (black) Lacks family. The personalities in the Lacks family really come to life in this book - especially with Deborah! Contrast to the history of cell culture, with the deep hypocrisy and discomfort of the medical community to ethical questions of cell line or "discarded" tissue ownership makes this book really good.
