[close] Having embarked on a three year nursing degree I was well aware of Florence Nightingale from Primary school but had never been introduced to Mary Seacole. Although practices have much changed (e.g Mustard poultices to treat cholera!), the essence of caring (and long unsociable hours!) are still core aspects of nursing today. I found the pages brimming with her determination and personality and found the statements from the many soldiers she cared for testimony to her dedication to nursing. I recommend as a read and hope Mary Seacole's popularity continues to grow and she gets the recognition she deserves. It isn't ALL about Florence Nightingale after all.
