I saw that we had this in our Audible library and since I was waiting for Words of Radiance to come out, I thought I burn through this one.
It was more middle grade than I expected. Maybe it's pre-middle grade. I didn't look that closely. If it was, that would explain the level of word usage. I'm afraid I expect Harry Potter when I start something middle grade now, and this was written at an elementary level.
