Reading 'the hobbit' was a delight. I always wanted to read a novel by Tolkien and I finally got the chance!

Lord of the rings was the first epic story I ever learned about so I have an emotional connection with Tolkien's world. The hobbit was magnificent, so magical and full of good messages about the world and people's values.

This is a brilliantly written adventure that reads as if it should be read aloud. The characters are fun, the story is exciting, the writing style is lovely, and there's a lot of story that takes place around other characters besides Bilbo that is never fully explained (except perhaps in Tolkien's other works). There's humour and sorrow and I quite often found myself smiling at the dialogue. I've read this book more than once, and I would be quite surprised if it turns out to be the last time. : ...more

It took me a very long time to read this. I really liked the story and all but sometimes it can get boring and if your not paying enough attention then you start missing some things and I had to reread some parts a lot.
