I am quite confident that these novels will be present on the bookshelves of generations of readers to come and will take their rightful place with the beloved classics of bygone years. For this series has a magic beyond that of the one detailed in its seven volumes. It possesses that rare gift to introduce a young life to the joy of reading, and to give to them the everlasting gift of the written word. Although many before me and many after will write reviews on this series as a whole, I wanted to put in my own, quite insignificant word, among the mass of praise already heaped on these deserving books.

Our story begins with an unlikely hero. Harry, our quintessential, downtrodden underdog of a protagonist, is a horribly abused orphan living in the cupboard under the stairs of his aunt and uncle's house. He is treated as though he were a servant, scum fit only to do menial tasks and tedious chores. Told that his mother and father were trash that died in a car crash, Harry is bullied by the Dursleys and leads a miserable life. However, one magical day, a letter arrives in the mail for him, a letter addressed to "Mr. H. Potter, The Cupboard Under the Stairs, 4 Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey".
