The year is 1956. High school freshman Johnny Miller has set his sights on Becky Turner, a cute red head in his neighborhood. But Becky, founder of the local Elvis Presley Fan Club, loves Elvis. How can Johnny possibly compete with the hip-swiveling rock and roll sensation? Johnny figures the best way to Becky's heart is to be like Elvis, so he buys blue suede shoes and sets out to buy a guitar. Lacking sufficient funds for a guitar, a salesman convinces him that a ukelele is the next best thing. Johnny teaches himself some Elvis songs and hatches a plan to serenade the fair Becky beneath her bedroom window. His song choice is “Hound Dog”, which gives you a clue as to where this is all going.
