Finally read The Hobbit and it was really fun. I loved the Lord of the Rings films but I just never got around to reading the books. That is something I hope to fix this year but I wanted to start by reading The Hobbit. The style of the book is very light and I can see why it was originally meant for kids, but I still found it engaging and fun. I am so happy that i made myself re-read this book at this time of my life,(other time i read it, the book was not mine and it was the translated version). With the movie coming out this December I decided to re-read it before I go to see it, just like any other book lover, this must have been the best decision ever made, because if i didn't, i would not remember how much i love this story after that crappy movie adaptation ( i made a review on my blogspot, if you want to know more , why Hellow,

J.R.R Tolkien was a master in world building, right when you start to read this book, you almost can picture every tiny bit of the scenery around the characters, everything pops to life when you get engaged in his reading. I am now interested in reading more of his work, other then this and Lord of the Rings, because i want to know even more of this strange, dangerous although beautifull lands of the Middle Earth.
Everything about the Hobbit makes me sigh and want to go back in time and live this adventures and know this creatures , dine, and smoke, and sing with them till the night drops. I think most of the best races ever "created" ( because most of them already existed, he just gave them his own style ) were by this author hands, the descriptions he does of their history, culture and personalities makes them all almost true and I do love that the most about his books.
If you are looking for the ultimate Adventure Book , this is the one to choose, it's so fast pacing, and things are always happen here and there, is that kind of reading where sometimes you really have to stop a bit to catch up with it, because you are recovering from one thing and other is already happening, although unlike other authors that try to do this, J.R.R made it work, all things make total sense till the last bit and you don't get annoyed at all by what is happening to this characters.
There was just one time on this whole book that i felt disappointed, and you will know which one, when you read it, but please don't give up on it, because you will have a big surprise, and this , specially after i read it all, and now thinking about it, is what makes it so special, that twist in the end was not something i expected and it made it so much more worthy, even if i thought that wasn't even possible.

How could i not give the highest of rates to this amazing piece of art? If you never read the Hobbit, please do! J.R.R. Tolkien was a master of his time.

Shelves: four-stars, legendarium

I've begun my re-read of the Tolkien Legendarium with the book that started it! The story is as epic and enjoyable as everyone else has already said, and as hobbits are the people whom I most enjoy in Middle Earth, this book certainly plays to my interests :) It's of course worth noting that no women or female characters appear in this book (although many of the dwarves or elves are never gendered, so let the imagination run riot), and in some ways the story feels like a checklist of adventures ...more

i mean. is it just me, or is this book kind of boring? and the scenes where things actually happen seem to only last about a page or two. and then the next 10 pages are telling other people about what JUST happened.
