Finally read The Hobbit and it was really fun. I loved the Lord of the Rings films but I just never got around to reading the books. That is something I hope to fix this year but I wanted to start by reading The Hobbit. The style of the book is very light and I can see why it was originally meant for kids, but I still found it engaging and fun. I am so happy that i made myself re-read this book at this time of my life,(other time i read it, the book was not mine and it was the translated version). I've begun my re-read of the Tolkien Legendarium with the book that started it! The story is as epic and enjoyable as everyone else has already said, and as hobbits are the people whom I most enjoy in Middle Earth, this book certainly plays to my interests :) It's of course worth noting that no women or female characters appear in this book (although many of the dwarves or elves are never gendered, so let the imagination run riot), and in some ways the story feels like a checklist of adventures

i mean. is it just me, or is this book kind of boring? and the scenes where things actually happen seem to only last about a page or two. and then the next 10 pages are telling other people about what JUST happened.
