I did not connect with this book on any level. And I feel kind of bummed about that fact. I appreciate the way the author kept certain information and slowly released it. It made me wonder if I somehow missed something but actually I just hadn't been told it.

It was a slog through most of the book, and then when I got to that certain point I just got angry at the whole thing. I wouldn't have finished if I hadn't been reading this for a book club. Not sure if the emotional reaction means I should bump it to two stars. There were a few interesting scenes and near the end it picked up, but a lot was quite dull.

I'm pretty sure I read this before; I remember some of the images as well as the particular sort of tension you feel throughout the book. It was a poor choice at a time when I was stressed about life in general, but this isn't the sort of book you can put down once you've started it. It's like watching a car accident, sort of. It's the general resignation of the characters that makes the book so good, and also what makes me fe ...more
