What Members Thought

This has been sitting on my shelf for far too long. Today I downloaded the full cast audio reading of it and just devoured the whole story in one sitting while catching up on work.
This story is a difficult read at times with a host of trigger warnings but is one that I feel everyone should pick up and engage with. Wow, what a rollercoaster!
We start off with Maya as a young child being sent off to her grandmother's with her brother Bailey, alone with a chaperone which only takes them part of the way and train tickets stapled to Baileys jacket. I believe this was common at the time - but can you imagine!!!
These types of books are the reason I love to read, it is so far from my own life in many aspects such as time, place & circumstances and yet there are many things I could relate to. I think it is so impo ...more

A slow burn, told with the grace and poise expected of the author as a true immersive storyteller. I liked hearing her thoughts and her feelings alot, although I wish that I could have heard more self-reflection on her journey - although this might've extended the book on a lot more! All in all, a satisfying read for a cold day.
