The idea of compound interest has long resonated with me, as has the notion of playing the long game (as opposed to get rich quick schemes). In this book you'll find some valid arguments in favour of it -- in addition to some good nuggets on the importance of setting objectives, keeping track of progress and accountability.

This being said, the author comes across as awfully arrogant & obnoxious. The first two chapters are probably enough to get the gist of the book. Then, on the topic of habits

This is definitely going to be one of those books I give to friends on their birthday. I took a lot out of what he said, and actually felt like they were goals that were achievable and can apply right away. As a person, I’m not necessarily a fan of the author, but he does know his stuff and I feel like I’ve come out of the book a better person.

The compound effect might not be for you, but it still acts on you.

Darren Hardy brags. He namedrops. Mentions his other products and services. He talks about status and wealth.

All stuff I would have found infuriating fifteen years ago.

I used to look down on people who played status and wealth games, thinking myself above them.

I judged those who wanted money.

Nonetheless, the principles they apply in their life still affected me.

If you want to start in business / personal development I highly recommend starting here. The compound effect breaks down the short and long term results of daily consistentcy - something that I believe isn't value enough outside of the gym realm. Incredibly easy to read, also has some major ephihany moments. ...more
