I actually spent time trying to decide on whether to give this book three or four stars. This extended meditation on water has its moments and is sprinkled throughout with just enough science to keep those with a more numerical and factual bent reading. I think Child's book is at its best when describing how the geography interacts with water. Then he adds some spiritual elements to the mix, making the land come alive in one's imagination.
