It took me exactly two chapters to get invested in the story, but after that I literally gobbled this book. The characters were all well portrayed and watching Alina develop through the course of the story was amazing. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Alina and the Darkling even if it lasted for a very short span of time. I did think that the Darkling was cunning and transparent but I had a glimmering hope that he would eventually come around. But I guess I was wrong.

La verdad es que es una fantasía bastante ligera, Alina me exasperaba cuando tenía esa manía de auto compadecerse todo el tiempo , Mal no me convence, el Darkling por el momento me gusta como personaje y villano. En general la historia es entretenida y fácil de leer; btw también es sencilla de leer en ingles en mi opinión, así que si estas buscando empezar a leer fantasía en ingles creo que seria una buena opción.

This book was nice to read, but the plot was a bit generic and I've read many books were the plot is very similar to this. I didn't really like the main character and I didn't think much actually happened in this book, however, it was only the first one and I thought it was a good beginning to the series. I'm going to give it 3.5 stars, and why, you may ask? Because: * (NON-SPOILER apart from the marked area)

1) It was just too cliche, I felt like I had seen it all before.
2) I actually had to physically put it down and SIGH at certain points, that's how I felt at those bits like PLEASE SAVE ME.
3) There were some good bits that I enjoyed that were scattered throughout the book.
4) I still have no idea who to ship with Alina (lol my fandom heart is showing) and am leaning heavily on her staying sing ...more

Someone please explain to me why it took me so long to read this book?

I absolutely LOVED every aspect of Shadow and Bone. I honestly don’t know where to start...

The characters were amazing! There was a good focus on the main characters, as well as the side characters, which I love to see. Alina was an amazing protagonist for this book, and I loved the motivations, goals, and feelings the author gave her. The relationships between the characters of this book were equally as amazing.

i really liked it and i absolutely love alina. i'm definitely continuing this and i'm really excited for the next book.
the pace was really fast and mal is boring lol.
just wished the magical aspects of the world would have been described more. like for example how other people's magic works as well

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to crack on immediately with the second! My only quandary was that I preferred the programme as we got more perspectives/ stories from it. I also wanted much more from Alina and The Darkling’s (very short lived) relationship.

This book was my first read of 2021 and I honestly just loved it. It was fun and exciting, and had a little bit romance as well. I took off a star because there were definitely some slower parts to the book where it felt like the plot was going nowhere. However, it picked right back and got super exciting halfway through.
