I loved this!

It def feels like a book of 2008, and the main character is a bit of a Mary Sue (she is incredible at literally everything), but what a complex, exciting, satisfying debut novel!

The romance is great — the fact that I wasn’t mad about the romance despite some possibly big power dynamic issues really says a lot! It was sweet and built up really well. I love the various close familial and friend relationships too, and the world is interesting.

Raced through it, great YA novel. Shame there wasn’t more of it but luckily there’s a sequel (same world, different main character I heard, but I’ll take it).
