What Members Thought
The author tells us that talking to strangers is hard, and that we, as a society, do a terrible job of it by making all sorts of wrong assumptions. The case he presents at the beginning of the book and then analyzes at the end of the book is that of the confrontation between a police officer and Sandra Bland, an African American driving down a highway in West Texas in 2015 that results in her arrest and suicide in jail three days later.
