Even with one chapter left I was still tempted to DNF. This didn't work for me at all. The flow was off and seemed clunky. There was no sense of time. Some parts would go day by day and then all of a sudden you would jump ahead without notice. Or, you would have the flashes back in time that added nothing as you already surmised what had happened.It's like the author got so excited she couldn't help but ruin her own surprise. We also read about the machinations and secrets that are rampant in any organization, perhaps especially in University Departments, where promotions and titles and income through major donors are all very important. I was really disappointed that this book didn't do it for me! I love a book-themed mystery, and this one had been so well-reviewed! Ultimately, I think my feelings maybe boiled down to expectation. In a lot of ways, this novel was more about the main character's development and the department politics than it was about the mystery. This is fine, but it wasn't what I was expecting or in the mood for. The tone of it was melancholy too and reflective in a sad way. I was expecting more of a fun ligh
