“Leave the World Behind” received so much pre-publication buzz and adulation it was bound to be divisive, and now that its Goodreads rating dropped over 30 points in a matter of days, it seems that is the case.
Personally, I found Rumaan Alam’s stellar novel frustrating, exhilarating and completely intoxicating. It was easily one of my favorite reads of the year, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.

This book would have been a DNF for me except it is for book club. I really hope we have a great discussion so that this wasn’t a total waste of time. Lots and lots of words to not really explain if anything is even happening. After two years of a pandemic, I don’t need this type of fiction in my life.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s ambiguous and suspenseful, and perfect for an apocalyptic novel.
I feel like most dystopian books skip over the weird first few days of disaster — this book focuses exclusively on them. I kinda like that, but also I feel l definitely need book 2
