What a beautiful yet heartbreaking story! This book grabbed hold of my heart and didn't let go. I didn't know whether it would live up to the hype for me, but it truly did. Kya is one of the most interesting main characters I've encountered in a long time.

“How much do you trade to defeat loneliness?”
I have to be honest: I was so close to abandoning this book. I did the audio version (no surprise there) but I was so bored through the first 1/3 of the book. I hardly ever consider abandoning books, but this one was dry as all get out at the beginning. I mentioned something to my mom and sister, both of whom had already read this book. I liked a lot of things about this book. Kya was a completely drawn character, and I could believe that even a six year old could survive on her own after reading this. But knowing the studies that exist about "failure to thrive" in babies that are not held and have no one to love them, I could also believe the emotional stuntedness that existed at least 25 years in Kya-she was an untouched and mostly unloved person and failed to thrive. Which is why the ending is unexpeced, but made sense to me
