This was such a mixed experience for me hence the middle of the road rating. There were parts that I loved but other parts that fell flat. The things I loved were specific scenes so I won't go into detail here. The things I didn't love were more general so for example: I thought it was unnecessarily long and drawn out, some of the storytelling didn't work for me, overall the novel felt very scattered and disjointed. I really tried to like this book but I just couldn't. This article pretty much sums up the reasons I didn't like it: http://io9.gizmodo.com/what-i-learned...
I started reading The Stand with high expectations because of all the good reviews. I was disappointed when I realized that I only liked very few aspects, like the character of Nick Andros and the description of the Dark man.
I won't reread it but I am glad I read it because I know that in a lot of other works of King the Dark man comes back ...more

Shelves: horror, mystery-thriller

There were so many incredible moments in this book, but it wasn't the best thing I've ever read. I did really enjoy discussing it with a friend, however. It was fun to find little hidden Easter eggs and entertain the possibility of hidden meanings. I can understand why it is so beloved. What an experience to read this during a world wide pandemic. I don't think I would have been comfortable reading it earlier than I did (April-May 2021).
