Knowing this story was about a backwoods cannibal family I expected something similar to Off Season by Jack Ketchum. Brother is very different, much less gory and much more emotional than what I had expected. Both excellent reads but with very different styles.

I really enjoyed Ahlborn's writing and we get to know each character well, we learn about their back stories, and how nothing is black and white. I found myself feeling something for each character, even the ones who did horrible things.

This book was not for me at all! I should have DNF’d it right away but continued bc everyone raves about this book. I knew it was dark and twisted before I picked it up, but this was a little too much for me.

I don't usually read Horror books but had heard good reviews on this book and thought I would give it a try. I have to say I wasn't disappointed I couldn't put it down. How are any of these children supposed t ...more

A book about a backwoods serial killer family? Sign me up! Even with the dark premise, for a while this book lulled me into thinking that I could possibly recommend this to a few people. The characters were fantastic and it was really hitting some emotional buttons, but once I got to the last 100 pages, it hit me that I was wrong... I can only recommend this one to those readers that don't mind the level of darkness that blood and heartless violence brings. ...more

4.5!

"A party ain't a party without a splash of red."

"He'd wrapped girls up in tape dozens of times, but he'd never been brazen enough to pull someone out of their home. Something about abducting a woman out of her living room felt like far worse a crime than shoving a hitcher into the car trunk. Home was supposed to be safe. There was no place like it."

I loved this fucked up story, filled with violence and sadness at the same time. The atmosphere made me feel like I was surrounded by the woods
