This took me a few months to finish. I would hate to say that this book is "too much" because I knew what I was getting into and the author intended for this story to be told. But it was ... a lot. I enjoyed the writing style and there were times when I thought I should just DNF it but it kept calling to me and I just really wanted to see it through and figure out what happened to the characters. ...more

I cannot give this book less than 5 stars. It's not perfect and I can't even say I loved, but it was by far one of the best books I have ever read. I felt so immersed in Jude's world that I kept thinking about him in my everyday life; how he would react to certain situations or what he would say to different people. The writing is incredible and that alone makes this books worth reading. It's hard to read and it makes you feel a lot of things you probably don't want to feel, but I think it is so ...more

I struggled a bit with the writing in this novel. I think listening to it on audio book helped get me through those issues. I thought the story itself was well done and I felt so many different things while reading this. I didn't expect to care so much or feel so much when I picked this up. This is a devastating novel and handles such difficult topics.

This book is not an easy read and there were many, many time that I HAD to put it down and walk away. But it is an amazing story and beautifully written. While it is so completely does not fit into one of my usual genres, it was worth all 709 pages. It will be on my mind for a long time to come.
