Heros and Redshirts, or the Power of the Hydra

The myth of the hero and heroine is not only a trope of fiction, and fantasy in particular. I hear psychologists about it. I hear sociologists about it. And I see social networks, with their top followed, and top reviewers, and best librarians. They tell people they can be heros for the week. They're doing it reasonably well, with well designed special pages and shiny labels on your names.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, well-paced, and enjoyable. As a scientist and someone that loves science fiction, I loved the frequent reference to the absurd. It had great humor, and I didn't expect the ending. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the change in tone was nice. ...more

Started off thinking this was a bit weak, but it got a lot better. 4 stars because he took the metafiction further than I thought he could without everything collapsing.
