I enjoy reading Neil Gaiman books, although most of them do feel more like extended short stories or novellas than fully fledged novels, and I felt this was the case with The Ocean at the End of the Lane. But there are some brilliant passages in this book, not least this one, which for me sums up how I feel about childhood:
