Homegoing is well written family saga of slavery, colonialism and racism with multiple points of view. The novel put us in position to rethink the connection with our home, ancestors, heritage and history; to perceive “the problem of history” and to seek for suppressed voices in the story in order to clear out the picture.

Each chapter gave a glimpse of a life could have been its own novel. We see a family through the generations and I was frequently left wanting more of them. Engaging novel that invoked tears. I did my best to not put this down today. I didn't read the synopsis before I picked this up. That created more intrigue. I found the family tree helpful. I wasn't sure how well the author could pull off a story that spans a couple centuries in a book this length, but she does it beautifully. I really enjoyed this read - one of my favorites I have read this year. ...more
